Freed from conservatorship, Britney Spears now needs to be freed from divorce drama

In 2021, Britney Spears was finally freed from a conservatorship that controlled every aspect of her life. Since then, we thought we'd seen the last of her legal troubles, but alas, legal drama continues to follow her around, much like the paparazzi.

You may have heard the news that the pop star is getting divorced from her husband of one year and two months, Sam Asghari. We are a little disappointed because we thought this marriage would last longer than most of Britney’s marriages and that she would not make another appearance in this blog.

So, will this be an amicable separation or a toxic one? Who will get custody of their dog? Who will come out on top in this battle? Here's everything we know about the divorce drama so far.

Britney announces her divorce via Instagram in the most Britney way imaginable

Like many of their celebrity peers, Britney and Sam announced their split via their respective Instagram accounts. Unlike their peers, however, their posts weren’t congenial and coordinated. Sam’s announcement reads:

“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.” This is an otherwise straightforward announcement, but he added a throwaway comment, “Sh*t happens,” as if to say, “Hey, I have some input in my divorce announcement.”

Britney’s, on the other hand, reads:

“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business !!!”

We can tell she wrote it herself — and without the aid of a celebrity publicist — because it has her trademark exclamation marks and ellipses. She then followed it up with a cryptic post about horses. Clearly, no one announces a divorce like Britney Spears.

In any case, this parting doesn’t seem amicable, despite what Mr. Asghari’s publicist-penned announcement might have you believe.

Could a divorce be amicable if your ex-spouse is leaking private details to TMZ?

This isn't a concern that many non-celebrities share, but for a megastar like Britney Spears, it's a valid question. And the answer is no.

Sam is purportedly sharing information about his soon-to-be-ex-wife and their breakup with TMZ, in what appears to be an attempt to tarnish the good name of Britney Jean Spears. Some of the accusations he is said to have leaked to TMZ include claims of Britney cheating on him with a member of the household staff and an allegation that she attacked him while he was asleep. It's beyond our wildest dreams to think that the petite Ms. Spears could do such a thing to that colossal man.

More challenges faced by Team Spears

It remains uncertain just how much of Britney’s approximate $60 million wealth Sam might be aiming to claim. In addition, according to Us Weekly, the current prenup stipulates that he'd get a cool $1 million every two years that they're hitched, with a cap at $10 million if they hit the 15-year mark. As for Britney's music collection and their cozy love nest, those are a no-go for Asghari. And word has it, there's a confidentiality clause in there too, making sure Asghari can't spill the beans on their love story (which he is already violating if he is, in fact, feeding info to TMZ).

But Sam's legal squad is reportedly taking a good, hard look at some of the clauses in Britney's prenup. According to an "insider", Sam's focus right now is all about haggling for perks beyond what's in the prenuptial agreement. And he's been dropping hints that he might reveal “extraordinarily embarrassing information” about Britney if he doesn't get more money.

If Britney’s lawyers do their job well, Sam won’t get any more than what was stipulated in the prenup. But if Sam’s lawyer does a better job than Britney’s lawyers, the confidentiality clauses could potentially become unenforceable.

Britney's lawyers have consistently excelled in safeguarding her wealth from shady individuals, such as her ex-partners. We have confidence that they won't let her down this time either.

And now, some good news about Britney’s other legal hurdles

Britney is no stranger to both child and pet custody battles. Now, she has to fight for her babies one more time. Britney reportedly agreed to split the custody of their dogs: she gets to keep four of their dogs while Sam gets Porsha, the Doberman that he bought as protection for Britney.

However, there's some good news regarding Britney's other custody battle: she won't have to make hefty child support payments to her former partner, Kevin Federline, as their son Sean turned 18 in September. She still has child support obligations for their other son, Jayden, but only until he reaches 18 in 2024.

As Britney continues to navigate the challenging terrain of divorce and child custody, we can only hope that luck is on her side. After everything she has been through, she truly deserves top-notch legal representation and a partner who doesn't tattle to TMZ.
